Why Information-Sharing Gateways Matter in SOC Collaboration
During technical discussions in June 2024, SAFE4SOC partners repeatedly returned to the role of gateways in enabling secure and policy-compliant information sharing between SOCs.
Gateways act as control points between internal SOC systems and external partners. In SAFE4SOC, they are responsible for enforcing usage control, managing authentication, and ensuring that shared alerts conform to the IDMEFv2 format.
Rather than treating gateways as simple data forwarders, the project conceptualised them as trust-enabling components. They allow SOCs to share information selectively, respecting legal, organisational, and operational constraints.
This design choice supports scalability and reuse. SOCs can integrate SAFE4SOC concepts without re-architecting their internal systems, lowering adoption barriers beyond the project.
Main note: Gateways in SAFE4SOC enable controlled, trusted, and reusable SOC information sharing.
